Labradford: “With John Morand and Assisted by Brian Hoffa.” (E Luxo So, Kranky 1999)

Labradford’s penultimate release on Kranky, their last of the 90s, remains one of my favorites of theirs. It’s hitting the spot as Sunday morning listening, easily the lushest and prettiest of their catalogue. Its maddening track listing (wherein the album credits are just assigned to tracks with arbitrary line breaks) is no reflection of its gorgeous, spare arrangements, ranging from a swooning small string section to gloomy, dub-infused tracks that suggest where Mark Nelson would take Pan•American in years to follow.
