Process: “Chug” (Pattern Recognition, Traum Schallplatten 2001)

Steve Barnes has released music under a few different monikers, but his Process project was always the most inspiring to me. It came at a time when dub techno was new to my ears, Mille Plateaux and Ritornell were worshipping the glitch to the extreme, and Basic Channel had quietly spawned an entire genre of subtle, dub-infused techno. This track is available as part of the more recent Electronic 2 collection on Traum, but it was originally released as part of his second album for the label in 2001.
