Words about electronic & experimental music

SINCE 2010

Function: “Ghost Echoes” (Variance, Sandwell District 2010) I’ve just gone and acquired most of the old Function releases from the past few years. This track stands out as one my...

Polysick: Digital Native (Planet µ) Hailing from Rome, Egisto Sopor is the mind behind the odd musical stylings of Polysick. Digital Native is his first proper full-length album under the...

The Traveller: A 100 EP (Ostgut-Ton) The Traveller is an alias of techno producer René Pawlowitz, and the tracks herein are a little ruder, less taut and refined than his usual output as...

Howard Shore: “Sexual Logic” (Crash OST, 1996) Howard Shore’s predominately guitar-based score for David Cronenberg’s 1996 film Crash seems totally apt given my being in a...

Geiom: “Pentin Din (Infant Remix)” (Cut and Pressed EP, Neo Ouija 2000) Before Geiom got into step with the current garage/post-dubstep wave of British bass music, he made dreamy,...

Eric Lanham: The Sincere Interruption (Spectrum Spools) Eric Lanham’s debut for Spectrum Spools is an interesting and unpredictable foray into electronic tinkering. His time in...

James Blake: “Tell Her Safe” (Klavierwerke, R&S 2010) Klavierwerke was the 3rd of James Blake’s trio of EPs in 2010, before he released his full-length album the following...

Thomas Köner: Novaya Zemlya (Touch) It’s been some time since I’ve heard new material from dark ambient master Thomas Köner. His initial series of ambient albums in the 90s has...

Terry Riley: “A Rainbow In Curved Air” (1969) How cool was it that my friends used this music as the bride’s processional in their outdoor wedding this weekend? It reminded me to...

Vladislav Delay: Espoo (Raster-Noton) “Olari,” the first track on this rather odd EP from Sasu Ripatti, starts off unassumingly enough with a sort of machine-gun like...
