Autechre: “SURRIPERE” (Draft 7.30, Warp 2003)

While their preceding Confield album changed the conversation about the music Autechre was making at the time, veering more headlong into less predictable, less melodic territory, their follow-up, Draft 7.30, is more accessible in hindsight than it may have seemed at the time. I find it to be sort of splitting the difference between their more obtuse and sprawling material and their more evocative, emotive track-making. This is one of my favorite cuts from the album.
