New Order: “Elegia” (1985)

The full, 17+ minute version of “Elegia,” which appeared on New Order’s 1985 Low-Life album in a much edited form, is New Order’s instrumental tribute to their belated friend Ian Curtis. I was reminded of the track by its well-placed usage in the new Netflix series Stranger Things, whose 80s soundtrack smacks of the same nostalgia from American Horror Story’s most recent season but with way more context and appropriateness — not just for fashion’s sake.
