The Residents: “A Spirit Steals a Child” (Eskimo, 1979)

I’ve never fully delved into the madness that is the sprawling repertoire of The Residents but every once in a while something catches my ear… this one off their 1979 release Eskimo I find to be disorienting, weird, both of its time and of no time at all. To my less familiar ears, it’s something between dadaist goofiness and bizarre performance art, perhaps splitting the difference between, say, Monty Python and Nurse With Wound.
