The Fear Ratio: “Ferm” (Refuge of a Twisted Soul, Skam 2015)

Mark Broom and James Ruskin’s ongoing collaborations as the Fear Ratio are well worth some attentive listening. I plan to write more about them as I dig deeper, but this last album of theirs reveals itself to have a lot of layers once you get through the immediacy of the trap beat that is found underpinning many tracks. I dig the Autechre-ish gloom and sputter that graces “Ferm” and other tracks in the album’s second half.
