Lawrence English & Scott Morrison: “One11 (refocused” (Room40)

As a bit of a teaser for a forthcoming write-up on Lawrence English’s nice new album For/Not For John Cage, here’s his collaboration with Scott Morrison recreating John Cage’s only film piece.

One11 (refocused) is a film and sound homage to John Cage. Based on Cage’s only film work One11, English and Morrison have re-staged the film and its subject, one single light source, shooting countless variations and iterations based on various Cagian principles. The sound composition charts a trajectory through Cage’s sonic revelations and interests, marking out a broad frame around his remarkable contribution to sound, music and culture during the 20th Century.
