Microfilm’s Houndstooth Harmonics now available
@microfilm‘s fifth full-length studio album, Houndstooth Harmonics, is now available! We are very proud of this one, stretching outside of the dancefloor paradigm almost entirely at times to dive into something more organic, less easily classifiable.
Houndstooth Harmonics by Microfilm
Our influences are varied and oblique; both Matt Keppel and I brought our own sonic touchpoints, references, and influences to the table including but not limited to:
- Prince: Controversy
- The Cure: Pornography
- Augustus Pablo: King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown
- The Knife: Shaking The Habitual
- Irregular patterns
- Boredoms: Super Æ
- Goldie: “Inner City Life”
- Flowers
- David Bowie: Station to Station
- William Friedkin’s Cruising
- Ruins: Vrresto
- Phil Collins’ drumming (Face Value + Frida’s Something’s Going On)
- Polyrhythms
- bird songs
- Underworld
- Rachel’s
- These New Puritans
- Caribou
The result is our least dancefloor-focused but perhaps most expansive-sounding effort to date. I hope you enjoy the tunes as much as we’ve enjoyed making them.
