Julia Holter: “Try To Make Yourself A Work Of Art” (Tragedy, Leaving 2011)

Julia Holter’s follow-up to this, Ekstasis, was the album that seemed to land more critical acclaim, but I much prefer the rougher-around-the-edges style of Tragedy. Foghorns, drones, disembodied recordings and Holter’s own uncanny knack for songs amidst all of it make this album a complete triumph.
