Ma Spaventi: The Jungle / Insanity (M>O>S Deep)
Italian producer Marco Antonio Spaventi presents two quality techno tracks, starting with the rolling hook of “The Jungle.” Its undulating bassline is pitted against crisp, gated, syncopated and layered claps and a buzzing, almost awkward lead that somehow works. The wandering melody reminds me of vintage Derrick May. The track’s bridge is a highlight, all claps and bass toms with the bassline showing off more body as it goes. “Insanity” touches on italo disco and electro with its 808 drum machine phrases and repetitive synth patterns, but its sensibility is rougher and more techno than those references. Both tracks have a nice sense of momentum and movement and are likely to work well on a nice and loud PA.
