Kowton: Dirty Little Bomb (Teal Recordings)

The original on the A-side of this single is a slower tempo deep tech house track. Its syncopated sounds remind me of old Wax Trax tracks (think Doubting Thomas), and its chilling mood is further helped by light, gloomy pads. The B-side remix from Rivet kicks things into a much more active state, losing a lot of the vibe of the original but substituting it with a healthy amount of momentum. I could personally do without the goofy monologue about vinyl vs. digital music that occurs halfway through, but as a remix it’s otherwise totally tight and prime for a faster tempo DJ mix. Get it for the original, with the remix as a healthy bonus.
