Lukid: Boxing Club/Blind Spot
This 12" sports 2 new cuts from leftfield producer Lukid. Unlike the drowsy hip-hop downtempo of his full-lengths, this is more upbeat and would nicely in a set of dubstep hybrid tracks. It never submits to a full four-to-the-floor kick, but it has compatibility with a variety of sounds. Both tracks are disorienting with their bending drones and tones, never quite taking on a melody or bassline and instead writhing woozily. It’s an odd pairing, to be sure, more on the DJ tool end than the more seductive sounds of his recent album Chord, but there’s a major amount of appeal in the warped nature of these tracks for me.
