Julia Holter: “So Lillies” (Tragedy, 2011)

I’ve been enjoying Ms. Holter’s new album Ekstasis, but I’m still more drawn to the strange field recordings and incidental noise of her previous release, Tragedy. There’s something that seems so effortless about most of its pieces, even when she pushes for high drama.
