Carsten Jost & Lawrence: A Greater Administration of Lower Interests (Dial)

Dial mainstays Carsten Jost (né David Lieske) and Lawrence team up with a new exclusive track each on this split 12" on their homebase label. Lieske hasn’t released a track as Jost in years, and “Chateau Jalousie” is a beauty. It has all of the trademark grace of his repertoire (and, by extension, Dial’s), full of smooth Rhodes chords and light, minimal tech house rhythm. It splits the difference between melancholy reflection and persistent bobbing. Lawrence continues the trend in style with “The Swan,” an appropriate name for its almost automatic elegance. “The Swan” is more intimate, smaller sounding than the spacious reverb and broad pads of Jost’s track, but the two work as a pair quite well. I hope they continue with more collaborations like this one; I’ve always considered the two to be kindred spirits, and new music from both is always a treat.
