Freiland: “Rot” (Schaffelfieber, Kompakt 2000)

Wolfgang Voigt has had a myriad of aliases over the last few decades, but some of the most noteworthy tracks from him, for me, are his incredibly minimal techno productions from the late 90s and early 00s on his own labels Kompakt, Profan, Auftrieb, and Freiland, the imprint reserved exclusively for his project of the same name. He included this particular track from the Orangerot 12″ on Kompakt’s timely and still awesome Schaffelfieber compilation, years ahead of the shufflebeat swagger trend that featured so prominently in numerous dance-pop singles mid-00s.
