Rrose: Merchant of Salt (Sandwell District)

Rrose turns out two tracks of sublime techno for the supposedly now-defunct Sandwell District imprint. “Shepherd’s Brine” starts off with a decayed, delayed percussive stab before kicking into an entrancing steady kick / phased sawtooth bass combo. Once it hits a stride, it’s a cool, dark night drive, with looming pads that bend like you’re zipping past them. it never really lets up, constant motion in the best possible way. The B-side “Waterfall” buzzes with electricity, with zapping waves of synths cascading in such a way that it lives up to its name. Both tracks are tight and insistent, carrying the Sandwell District torch quite well.
