Eprom: Feldspar (Leisure System)
Nasty, squelchy fun from Alexander Dennis on this two-tracker EP. “Feldspar” is a woozy intersection of a four-to-the-floor club banger with snarly dubstep and mangled electrohouse sounds, all offset quite nicely by drippy pads and an airy coolness. The halfbeat that drops out every once in a while is a nice red herring; I assumed yet another wobbly dubstep track until it slammed into overdrive with an aggressive 4/4 kick. B-side “Psycho” touches on the slo-mo dubstep-meets-whatever of acts like The Glitch Mob with a patient 808 break and stabby fuzzy bass sounds and tinges of chiptune synths and samples. While I like the playful agility of “Psycho,” the A-side is the real star here. It’s complete madness and probably even the most resistant listener will find him or himself bobbing along.
